I have seen a lot of jokes about Justin Beiber’s recent arrest and it saddens me for many reasons, so I thought I would write a letter to The Biebs. I am guessing that this will probably never find him, but God can do amazing things so here it goes.
I don’t know what it’s like to be handed a never ending supply of money when you are 19, but I am assuming that it makes life challenging. I am sure that it makes you feel like you can do whatever you want whenever you want and no one can stop you. I remember I felt that way when I was 19 and I didn’t have more than a few bucks to my name at a time. I am a little older now and have learned a few things that I thought I would share with you, in hopes you don’t end up like so many other young celebrities.
I watched your documentary one time with my wife and noticed how important God was to your Mom. I was astonished to see you guys spend time praying before your shows. I was hopeful that maybe there would be a pop superstar that lived a life of purpose for the kingdom of Heaven rather than for earthly gain.
I don’t know about you, but last time I checked, trips to a brothel, drunk driving arrests and swearing at cops aren’t exactly on the list of the Fruit of the Spirits. I am like you though Justin. I have never been arrested or had a DUI, but I am just like you. I mean, I can’t sing and I only have a couple hundred twitter followers instead of a few million. I don’t have a fan club, unless you count my wife and my parents, but I am just like you.
I am a dirty, rotten sinner with no ability to save myself from that sin. Just like you. I make bad choices all the time. Just like you. I am no better than you and you are no better than me.
And there is good news for both of us. Jesus lived and died for scumbags like you and I. He lived and died to give us a second chance at life to the full.
I remember reading your tweet when I heard you were "retiring" and you said the following, "'My beloved Beliebers I'm officially retiring," "The media talks a lot about me. They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail, but I'm never leaving you, being a Belieber is a lifestyle. Be kind, loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas. I'M HERE FOREVER,"
While those sentiments about Christ are very true, it would be nice to see actual fruit of them in your life, instead of DUI's, brothels and profanity rants. You know the best way to get the media to stop talking about every dumb thing you do? Stop doing dumb things. Focus on your music, your loved ones and your relationship with Christ. Use your platform for His glory here on earth rather than your glory.
And one more thing Justin. You won't be here forever. You will die. Life has gone on thousands of years before you and will go on after you. The legacy you leave will be based on the choices you make. So, make good choices. Turn away from these idiotic things and use the platform you've been given to promote Christ.
The awesome thing about Jesus is that He knows everything you've done and will still forgive you. My hope for you, Justin, is that you learn from these mistakes you are making and turn to Him. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." I hope for your sake that you listen to Him.
