Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance. - Romans 5:3
Ecclesiastes 3:1-11 is a perspective-shifter. With wise observation, Solomon reminds us of the ebb and flow of life. I imagine him tilting his head from side to side as if to say “sometimes it’s good, sometimes, not so much.”
But as he examines the movements of daily life, he illustrates the hope that carries us through the hard stuff. Suffering lasts for a season, but the seasons of good are just ahead!
Are you in the middle of a hard season? Are you pushing through each day, battered and tossed in pain, disappointment or frustration?
You’re not alone; we’ve all been there… or are there… or will be there. But here’s your hope, found in verse 11.
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. - Ecclesiastes 3:11
God’s going to bring beauty to your painful place. He will, in His time. Until then, lean in and hold on to Him.
If you need some promises to activate your perseverance, here’s your list: Romans 8:28; Isaiah 40:31; Psalm 107:6, 14-16; Psalm 126.
