Remember the scene in “Gladiator” when the enemy is charging, and William Wallace commands his revolutionaries to “HOLD!” As the music crescendos with the powerful pounding hooves of the English horses, everything in you wants Wallace’s men to run into the battle. But 4 times, he commands his men to “HOLD!” And at just the right time, with the enemy close to their line, the Scottish rebels unleash their battle plan.
It’s a powerful visual of how we can stand our ground against the attacks of our enemy. When it feels like things are crumbling, when the heartache is too much, and when fear begins to creep in and whisper “run,” the last thing we want to do is stand firm and ‘HOLD!’ Paul addresses this in his letter to his friends at Ephesus:
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth. - Ephesians 6:14
The ‘truth’ refers to the Bible. Paul’s assuring us that if we stay grounded in God’s Word - if we read it, meditate on it, memorize and get to know it - we will be able to stand against Satan’s attacks.
Whatever attack the enemy is unleashing today, put on your gear and stand your ground. With God’s Word guiding you, nothing can stop you!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. - Phillipians 4:13
