I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. - Romans 7:15
Paul understood the struggle is real. It’s that battle between flesh and spirit. Most of us know the right and wrong things. We do. But sometimes there’s this wide, Grand Canyon gap between what we know and what we do.
I know I should consume less sugar and junk food while adding on my veggies, hours of sleep and calorie burn. I know it, but that doesn’t mean I do it.
I know that harsh words hurt, complaining pollutes the atmosphere around me, and gossip damages people. So why do I struggle with saying no to it?
I know God tells me to be forgiving, kind, pure in heart, patient, and gentle. But, well, you know what I’m saying.
Here’s the shiny spot of hope in this struggle. God’s not finished with us! Yes, we struggle and rebel and fail every day, just like Paul did all those years ago. But God has a plan, and we get to be a part of it, shortcomings and all.
Paul’s reminder to his friends at Philippi is a good one for us, too!
And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. - Philippians 1:6
