You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. - Matthew 5:14-16
Imagine yourself alone in the woods. Suddenly, the skies turn dark, the winds pick up and the pelting rain begins to slam against your skin. You start running, but there’s no way to escape the storm.
And then you see it, a tiny shelter lit brightly against the backdrop of the dense, black forest. In a frenzied rush, you bolt through the front door. As you close the door behind you, there’s a pause and a deep breath. Outside the storm is fierce and frightening; inside it’s safe, warm, and full of light.
When we choose to love others well--when we forgive them, show them grace, and ignore the places they come up short--we become a bright light in a world full of darkness. Did you know that God wants to use you to pull people close, to refresh the places they’re weary, to restore their joy and to heal their brokenness?
Today, let your light shine--it’s too valuable to keep hidden!
