I have been exercising a lot lately. That’s because I got a call from American Ninja Warrior last week. They told me in that phone call "We are moving you onto the next phase of the process. You'll receive a phone call within a month if you are chosen." After giggling and shaking my head for a while I looked to my semi-shocked wife and with a shrug said, “Okay, let’s do this.”
I spoke a similar phrase when I quit my job to be full-time self-employed. We said it again to each other when she walked down the stairs with a positive pregnancy test in her hands and shock on her face almost three years ago. There are big moments in our lives when we have to look at ourselves or the ones that we love and say, “Okay, let’s do this.”
In the movies these moments are montaged with music and fast cuts easily and quickly, but montages don’t exist in reality. The reality of my phone call with Ninja Warrior was an early morning alarm and training session. It's eating quinoa and not melted cheese. It's climbing and hanging until my body aches and waking up the next day to do it all over again.
When we decided to follow Jesus we really have to say, “Ok, Let’s do this!” We are fired up! We wake up early to read our bible, we pray, we fast, we worship. We are the montage of Rocky training to fight and it's exciting. It feels easy...at least for a while. Then, things change, our priorities shift and we find ourselves praying less and doing anything else more.
It's easy to find yourself there. It's easy to exchange a "Let's do this" attitude with an "I'll do it later" one. You might find yourself there right now. Well, maybe these words can ignite the "Let's do this" in you. Maybe these words can be the Ninja Warrior phone call to your faith. My guess is that as soon as you start to pursue God with more passion and purpose you won't regret it. Maybe, this moment is the starting point for something big that is to come, something bigger than a course or a warped wall. If that's the case, won't you be so glad that today is the day you said, "Okay, Let's do this!”
