They’re entertaining to watch, but I’m not sure I would last too long on the reality shows where people are dropped off in the middle of No One Wants To Live There. Mosquitos, snakes, sunburn, starvation, lack of sleep, creepy crawlies, all in the pursuit of “I’m The Winner.” No thank you. But I love seeing what they choose as their one item from home. I mean, to whittle it down to one thing? My favorite is the guy who brought duct tape. My dad’s been saying it for years- “You can use duct tape for anything!” That contestant really made Pop proud.
But step away from TV entertainment, and recognize the bigger picture here. Our “One Thing” should always be Jesus. When we open our eyes? Jesus. Throughout our day? Jesus. Before we sleep? Jesus. I’ll admit that I don’t always live here. Sometimes I get sucked in to today’s list and stresses and activity, and I forget that I need Jesus. Until I feel breathless…
But I want to get better. I want to remember Him and need Him and focus on Him before I get breathless. How about you?
Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. Matthew 22:36-37
