Winters in my little town can be dreary and cold. Gray skies, icy winds, blah, blah, blah. Some days, that’s how it feels. JUST BLAH. I long for the blue summer skies and warm breezes, but they feel very far away. So I nestle in as much as I can, catch up on lots of TV and wait. When daylight is short and the nights are cold, my mind starts to dabble in the dreariness. Before I know it, I can be full on in a Cold Miser Funk.
But the reality is, winter doesn’t last forever. Eventually, the clouds give way to blue, the sun bakes my pale skin and I am set free from balky layers. The sun always shows up; I can count on it.
Maybe today you need to be reminded that the sun will show up. Are you in a season of gray, depressing, cold circumstances? Do you want to shut the door on the winter landscape and protect yourself under the cover of a locked soul?
I love the promise found in Psalm 126:1-2: When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with shouts of joy.
Your sunshine is on the way. I don’t know when or where or how, but God promises it. He’ll restore you, give you new dreams, and He’ll fill your mouth with laughter and your soul with shouts of joy. Write down Psalm 126 and preach it to your heart!
