For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ for all who believe. - Romans 3:23-24
We live in a world that places extremely unrealistic expectations of perfection on us. It's like we're constantly being yelled at to look perfect: to wear the perfect clothes, have perfect hair, always look perfectly put together. To act perfect: don't make mistakes, have the perfect group of friends, be perfectly pleasant all the time. Just be PERFECT, okay?!
But we're human. Perfection is impossible. No amount of effort will get us there. We're going to mess up. We're going to fall into temptation. You are not perfect.
And that's okay! That's why we need God! God doesn't make mistakes. Jesus is the only one who ever has lived and ever will live a perfect life.
Imperfection is perfectly okay.
Take a look at your imperfect self: your failures, your shortcomings, your ailments. Acknowledge that. EMBRACE that. No really, pull your imperfect self into a big bear hug! You are exactly how God made you to be! You are fearfully and wonderfully made! You don't need to be perfect. Embrace imperfection!
