Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. - Romans 12:12
I wish that those words described me all of the time: joyful, patient, and faithful.
Joyful in hope. I'm joyful when things are going my way. When I am successful, and people are making me happy, it's easy to be joyful. But when I'm waiting and hoping for something that may or may not happen, am I still joyful? I think it's more of an anxious frustration that people see in me during those times.
Patient in affliction. Ehhhh... not so much. I've probably spouted off a few too many "why me's" at God when I'm struggling through something. It's hard to be patient when you can't see the finish line.
Faithful in prayer. This is the one that I want to improve in the most. I want to pray without ceasing. To constantly be talking with and listening to God. I want my first instinct to be to turn to Him in prayer, faithfully. And right now, it's not.
This short verse packs a big punch. I know I'm not alone in constantly failing to do these things. And I'm glad we have scriptures like this to show us how to fix our eyes on God even when our sinful nature tries to fight it.
Choose Joy. Choose Patience. Choose Faithful Prayer.
